greenTYPEWRITERS present the Arcade Fire LIVE

Last week greenT had the privilege to see one of Canada's finest contemporary bands melt faces and cause an entire stadium to remain on its feet for the duration of a near perfect set. The setlist included most of the Arcade Fires brilliant new album The Suburbs, six tracks from their even better debut Funeral, and four tracks off of their dark sophomore Neon Bible.

Setlist:

1. Ready to Start
2. Month of May
3. Keep the Car Running
4. Neighborhood #2 (Laika)
5. No Cars Go
6. Haïti
7. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
8. Half Light II (No Celebration)
9. Rococo
10. The Suburbs
11. The Suburbs (Continued)
12. Ocean of Noise (with Calexico)
13. Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
14. We Used to Wait
15. Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
16. Rebellion (Lies)

Encore:
17. Intervention
18. Modern Man
19. Wake Up

Now when I say "near perfect" I do not mean that the sound wasn't clear as crystal or that the crowd was as subdued as a group of swaying zombies, but if you glace at the setlist and are as enthralled with the new album as greenT is, then you must notice the lack of the arguably best song from the new album, "Suburban War" (live in Bologna). I was in disbelief that the Montreal group aren't playing this track as much as they possibly can.

That being said we did snag some video of our second favourite track from The Suburbs called "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)":

Do what you can to catch this band live if you aren't planning on it already. They may not be the animated child-like group of friends and lovers that ecstatically first toured the globe in 2005, but they have grown into a band that are knowingly making music that will be remembered as the staple example of music from the decade of double zeroes.

What's Happenin' on the Internets :: Double Rainbows, how do they work?

The main thing that we love about the internet here at greenT is its constant humour and unique take on such small pieces of peoples lives.

Instructions:

1.) Watch the original video.

Cultural Commentary :: Bill Maher - "Bi-Furious"

Bill Maher is an American stand-up comedian and televised social critic who currently hosts HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher. In this clip Maher righteously discusses bipartisanship, militant-democracy, health care reform, Tiger Woods, global warming, etc. etc.. etc...

Good show Maher.. good show.

What's Happenin' on the Internets :: Merton the Chatroulette Pianist

Chatroulette.com is a free online chat program that enables its users to use their web cams in order to show off their dirty mug to whichever random chat partner the program chooses for you.

The program apparently hosts a whole bunch of explicit male material, which is not surprising considering this is the internet, so be forewarned before trying it out.. but if you believe in luck.. then you might run into Merton who recently began comedically improvising songs on his piano for the viewers on the other side:

UPDATE: The Merton video was taken down and we can't find it right now.. so we have replaced the original version with a Tribute to Merton by Ben Folds done live in Charlotte:

Here's the original:

An informative opinion on Chatroulette:

I estimate I've seen 100 people on Chatroulette. My breakdown is the following:

40% are people with their cameras turned off who instantly close the chat and move on.
20% are groups of people laughing and having a good time.
30% are dudes stroking it.
5% are people actually trying to talk.
5% are funny pics.

I've never seen hot girls, or any girls, flashing their boobs. I am disappoint.

Fascinating stuff.

Cultural Commentary :: Doug Stanhope - "Abortion is Green"

Doug Stanhope is an American stand-up comedian and author of his self-published book Fun with Pedophiles: The Best of Baiting, and in this video he enlightens us with his attachment of environmentalism to sodomy:

Here are a few other examples of some of his unapologetic ideology:

"There's only two types of people who are against [illegal] drugs: the people who have never done drugs and the people who really sucked at doing drugs."
"If you really believe that death leads to eternal bliss, then why are you wearing a seatbelt?"
"Nationalism does nothing but teach you how to hate people you've never met-- all of a sudden you take pride in accomplishments you had no part in whatsoever... if you're American you'll go 'Fuck the French! Fuck the French, if we hadn't have saved their ass in two World Wars, they'd be speakin' German right now!' And you go, 'Oh, was that us?' Was that me and you, Tommy, we saved the French? Jesus! I know I blacked out a little after that fourth shot of Jägermeister last night, but I don't remember.... I checked my pants, there's no mud stains on the knees from when we were garroting Krauts in the trenches at Verdun. I think 'we' didn't do anything but watch sports bloopers while we got hammered. I think 'we' should shut the fuck up!"
"Suicide is another thing that's so frowned upon in this society, but honestly, life isn't for everybody. It really isn't. It's sad when kids kill themselves 'cause they didn't really give it a chance, but life is like a movie: if you've sat through more than half of it and it sucked every second so far, it probably isn't gonna get great right at the very end for you and make it all worthwhile. No one should blame you for walking out early."
"Babies are like poems. They're beautiful to their creator, but to other people they're silly and fucking irritating."

Roger Ebert finds his voice.

Starting in late 2006, Roger Ebert could not talk, eat, or drink because of his battle against thyroid and salivary cancer.. but now with a little help from modern technology and his own history of outspoken criticisms and praises, Ebert's unmatched legacy of words about film now allows the man to continue to speak as much as he wants: "After I lost my speaking voice, everybody thought they had this brilliant idea. 'Hey! Why don't you just take your voice from your old shows and put it on a computer?' Sounded good to me."

It seems like Roger Ebert is back to his old self again with an eye-opening article in Esquire Magazine that reveals his new jawless frame, and a more recent visit on Oprah where he will show off his new technological partner in crime, as he does here to his wife of 18 years, Chaz:

Continue following Roger Ebert's journey through his official website or on his more updated blog, and I'm sure we will see that man that has done so much for film at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards this Sunday at 8|5pm.

Real-Life Superheroes :: Angle Grinder Man!

At times people need to take physical control of their own values, and debatable self-serving laws, to make their neighbourhoods and communities a better place for everybody's children. This has been done throughout history with the birth of church communities, educational facilities, and generally any group of people that are seen as a part of the "lower-classes".. although with money comes a greater flexibility to give help through financial expense.

An example of this is Beck, who is a public advocate/member of the Church of Scientology.. the reason being that the church is apparently the highest pious donator to various causes around the world, which doesn't suprise us considering their star studded congregants.. or is it parishioners?

Regardless if help is in the form of emotional care, physical love, or expendable pieces of paper, they are all aspects of the kindness in life that is not given as much light as it certainly deserves:

There is a large community driven to these, more animated, real-life superheroes on the official website for the film Kickass that will invade your breaks in-between channel surfing very soon.
The website is aptly named RealLifeSuperheroes.org.
