Roger Ebert finds his voice.

Starting in late 2006, Roger Ebert could not talk, eat, or drink because of his battle against thyroid and salivary cancer.. but now with a little help from modern technology and his own history of outspoken criticisms and praises, Ebert's unmatched legacy of words about film now allows the man to continue to speak as much as he wants: "After I lost my speaking voice, everybody thought they had this brilliant idea. 'Hey! Why don't you just take your voice from your old shows and put it on a computer?' Sounded good to me."

It seems like Roger Ebert is back to his old self again with an eye-opening article in Esquire Magazine that reveals his new jawless frame, and a more recent visit on Oprah where he will show off his new technological partner in crime, as he does here to his wife of 18 years, Chaz:

Continue following Roger Ebert's journey through his official website or on his more updated blog, and I'm sure we will see that man that has done so much for film at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards this Sunday at 8|5pm.

"Take my pound of flesh and sleep well."

Here at greenT we choose not to include "scare-tactic" media coverage.. but we also have faith that our readers are aware of such subliminal constraints. That being said this piece of news is interesting on many levels.

Joseph Andrew Stack (1956 - 2010), a 53 year old Austin, TX resident, alt-country bass player and software engineer, crashed his Piper Cherokee PA-28 aircraft into an Internal Revenue Service government building yesterday and authorities are stating that two unidentified bodies have been found along with two people left injured in the incident.

Before setting his $250,000 home on fire and setting out in his plane, Stack wrote a suicide note that was apparently e-mailed to IRS officials and posted on his companies website (http://www.embeddedart.com/). In the letter, Stack urges his outright contempt for capitalist America and the unfair governing tactics that have seemed to haunt the man during his entire adult life. Although friends assure us that Stack was a soft spoken man, his brooding intensity was unleashed in the only he saw fit. The letter urges revolt and revolution in a country where many see "the American dream" in the "land of the free" as the product of false consciousness:

"I can only hope ... that the American zombies wake up and revolt; it will take nothing less. I would only hope that by striking a nerve that stimulates the inevitable double standard, knee-jerk government reaction that results in more stupid draconian restrictions people wake up and begin to see the pompous political thugs and their mindless minions for what they are. Sadly, though I spent my entire life trying to believe it wasn't so, but violence not only is the answer, it is the only answer. The cruel joke is that the really big chunks of shit at the top have known this all along and have been laughing, at [sic] and using this awareness against, fools like me all along."
His suicide letter is an interesting read into the helpless and articulate mind of a man's efforts against the governing power-block over the course of his life, which eventually lead to his tragic end. Read the entire letter here.

Those that end up losing in this tactical confrontation are the two IRS employees, along with families and friends of all those injured, that were killed during the attack. Stack seemed to believe that what he did was necessary in order to embarrass and force a justification from government officials that had taken advantage of the man throughout his life.. but despite this, a strike against humanity based on mere employment is sincerely unnecessary.

Stack ended his letter with this:

The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.
It will be interesting to see how American citizens react to Stack's actions - the tyrant vs. the revolutionary - and how he will be labelled on a global front.

What's Happenin' on the Internets :: Epic Beard Man

The video that started it all (now with subtitles):

This meme all started with some footage that a couple of girls captured on an AC Transit Bus last night in Oakland when a verbal and eventually physical fight occured between the 67 year old "Epic Beard Man", who is actually known as "Vietnam Tom" in San Fransisco and has had a video of him being tasered at an Oakland A's game before, and an another unknown 50 year old man.

Many internet forums have raised endless social and ethnological questions and further intellectual discource on the subjects that are raised in the video.. but mainly they have harvested this golden video into many good laughs.

Additional Footage:
Part II of the altercation off the bus.
The filmers public apology.

A Word on Western Olympic Coverage...

The interesting thing about the Vancouver 2010 Olympic coverage being broadcasted on two national channels that lay next to each other (the Canadian CTV and American NBC networks) is that if you cannot put up with some of the over-optimistic and absurdly proud Canadian commentators yapping during every medal contenders strive at the Olympics, then you can quickly change it over to your grim-ridden, nihilistic America brothers of coverage who have nothing positive to say until another American athelete wins a medal.

It is embarrassing for whichever side of the border you happen to have been born on.. but at least the athlete's performaces inspire everyone positively despite the unfortunate use of unnecessary language.

Submarine volcano erupts in Japan!

The Japanese Coastguard took pictures and video of an erupting underwater submarine volcano yesterday near Iwo Jimo.

Although submarine volcano eruptions are not entirely uncommon and are witnessed to occur every year or so, it doesn't make these videos and pictures any less staggering.
