Cultural Commentary :: Andrew Kim Redesigns Coca Cola

Freshman Andrew Kim had the brave idea to redesign Coca Cola products for his second semester midterm project.

The environmentally friendly concept design that he came up with has become increasingly popular around the world thanks to communal efforts over the internet, and although there are some interesting points made that soda bottles are created round because the carbonated pressure would deform the shape of a square product, it does not make Kim's design any less brilliant and applicable to every other bottled product that is not carbonated.

Here's what he came up with:

Cultural Commentary :: Thai Life Insurance - "Daddy"

As President Obama has figuratively bent over backwards trying to provide the United States of America with the luxury and undeniable benefit of national health care, the democratic party finally has a health care bill that is going to be put into law:
"The bill, which constitutes the biggest expansion of federal health care guarantees in more than four decades, passed the House of Representatives late Sunday night with no Republican support.... The overall $940 billion plan is projected to extend insurance coverage to roughly 32 million additional Americans."
Although the Republican naysayers will continue to fight the "good" fight by appealing the bill, the whole situation reminds us of a thoughtful commercial done by Thai Life Insurance that puts the little things into perspective:

Cultural Commentary :: The Onion - "Breaking News"

The Onion is one of many comedic hubs that mock the social structures of every day life. The hope is that this video commentary is used instrumentally to help audiences honestly reflect upon themselves in order to justify its sanity when being constantly bombarded by isolating materials.

Here they take an easy jab at the media:

Cultural Commentary :: Doug Stanhope - "Abortion is Green"

Doug Stanhope is an American stand-up comedian and author of his self-published book Fun with Pedophiles: The Best of Baiting, and in this video he enlightens us with his attachment of environmentalism to sodomy:

Here are a few other examples of some of his unapologetic ideology:

"There's only two types of people who are against [illegal] drugs: the people who have never done drugs and the people who really sucked at doing drugs."
"If you really believe that death leads to eternal bliss, then why are you wearing a seatbelt?"
"Nationalism does nothing but teach you how to hate people you've never met-- all of a sudden you take pride in accomplishments you had no part in whatsoever... if you're American you'll go 'Fuck the French! Fuck the French, if we hadn't have saved their ass in two World Wars, they'd be speakin' German right now!' And you go, 'Oh, was that us?' Was that me and you, Tommy, we saved the French? Jesus! I know I blacked out a little after that fourth shot of Jägermeister last night, but I don't remember.... I checked my pants, there's no mud stains on the knees from when we were garroting Krauts in the trenches at Verdun. I think 'we' didn't do anything but watch sports bloopers while we got hammered. I think 'we' should shut the fuck up!"
"Suicide is another thing that's so frowned upon in this society, but honestly, life isn't for everybody. It really isn't. It's sad when kids kill themselves 'cause they didn't really give it a chance, but life is like a movie: if you've sat through more than half of it and it sucked every second so far, it probably isn't gonna get great right at the very end for you and make it all worthwhile. No one should blame you for walking out early."
"Babies are like poems. They're beautiful to their creator, but to other people they're silly and fucking irritating."

Cultural Commentary :: Bill Hicks - The Point of Life

Here is an unmistakable example of Bill Hicks (1961 - '94).. the self-described "Chomsky with dick jokes":

Samples of Bill Hicks' performances have shown up in all sorts of artistic arrangements created by many artists including Super Furry Animals and Tool. Radiohead dedicated The Bends (1995) to his behalf and Tom Waits named Hicks' Rant in E Minor (1997) as one of his 20 most cherished albums of all time.

Currently there is news floating around that Ron Howard and Russell Crowe (who would play Hicks) are working on a film about Bill Hicks' life and career.
