Ears to the ground. Eyes to the sky.

Here's a list of tunes/mp3s that you may have missed these past weeks and the nice little video above should lighten up spirits before the weekend.. depending on which end of the stick you happen to be pulling from.

Pop:
Caribou - Odessa
Caribou has just released "Odessa", it's first track from the upcoming album Swim that is to be released on 4/20, and it is more of a vocalist/EDM coming of age track (ala Hot Chip) then anything from Caribou's previous psychedelic album Andorra or his instrumental beginnings as Manitoba. It seems that Dan Snaith simply can't make bad music and anything that makes more people dance at Caribou's incredible live shows is fine with us. B+

Hip-Hop:
Big Boi - Shine Blockas [ft. Gucci Mane]
Big Boi released this track last year and if you roam around under rocks then you may not have heard that Big Boi and Andre 3000 are both releasing solo albums this year. If they take well (it's Big Boi and Andre 3000!) then they say that an Outkast album will follow in 2010 as well! "Shine Blockas" has exploded and everyone is excited for the return of Outkast after their mediocre Idlewild soundtrack. A+

Rock:
Jay Reatard - Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle [Nirvana Cover]
This fabulous cover could be the last recorded material by late garage rocker Jay Reatard for a Nirvana In Utero Tribute that should be coming out sometime in 2010. An incredibly talented artist who died too young covering an incredibly talented artist who died even younger is quite a strange context for this solo take on one of Nirvana's more unique tracks. A

Lo-Fi:
the Mayfair Set - Already Warm
The Mayfair Set combines the L.A. and Brooklyn lo-fi/garage groups Dum Dum Girls and Blank Dogs and if that doesn't peak your interest then once this group releases their upcoming Young One [EP] and following LP this year then heads are sure to turn. The Mayfair Set will be the best new band in 2010.. mark our words. B+

EDM:
David Byrne & Fatboy Slim - Please Don't [ft. Santigold]
There is unsuprisingly quite a lot going on in this track and unfortunately the least thing going on is David Byrne's vocal contribution, although him and Fatboy Slim will definately make up for that on their upcoming album Here Lies Love (23/2/10). They recruit Santigold to take over the vocal reigns and she does not disappoint sounding more politically driven then ever behind her voice that sounds like a dance version of Tegan and Sara.. but vocally and lyrically much more interesting than the Canadian twins. This album can't come soon enough. A
